China Swim Bubble Mock-Up

The futuristic swim center that China is constructing for the 2008 Beijing Olympics is really starting to take on its intended funky shape.

The funky shape?  You guessed it.  A water cube.

** You smart people, you! **

China Swim Center - Bubble Boy Cube

This is a very radical design for a totalitarian state that machine guns its citizens in national squares, but here’s for progress!  Although, I do have some concern this center is potentially the preamble/cornerstone of a China Logan’s Run population control effort….

The ‘intended use’ of the building is for the Games swimming, water polo, diving, and synchronized swimming events.

Here’s some of the finer points to the building’s make-up:

The Water Cube was initially designed by PTW Architects from Sydney, Australia and CSCEC International Design and Arupwith structural Engineers Arup conceiving the structure. The structure was built by CSCEC (China State Construction Enginering Corporation).

The Water Cube employs water as a structural and thematical “leitmotiv” with the square, the primal shape of the house in Chinese tradition and mythology.  [SOURCE]

Yeah, I know.  Blah blah blah.  Fuck the finer points.  This place is gonna be pretty cool.
