The United Nations adopted a resolution last week calling for a truce during the Beijing Olympic Games next year.  The resolution entitled “Building a peaceful and better world through sport and the Olympic ideal” was approved by the 192-member body unanimously.

It welcomes the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to mobilize international sports organizations and the National Olympic Committees of the member states to undertake concrete actions at the local, national, regional and world levels to promote and strengthen a culture of peace and harmony based on the spirit of the Olympic Truce.

It urges member states to observe the truce during the Beijing Olympic Games which will take place from 8 to 24 August 2008, and the subsequent Paralympic Games in Beijing which will take place from 6 to 17 September 2008.  [LINK TO STORY]

Wow.  This a novel idea.  Hmm….peace during the Olympics.  And just so we’re clear…..how clear?….crystal.  We’ve got ya all on record.  So don’t blow it!  No burning of villages in Darfur or dismantling of constitutional rights in Pakistan during those 27-days outlined.   Got it!

In other news, Al Queda has unanimously voted 1-0 to not give a f*ck about no stinking resolution and to wreak havoc during the 27-day period, since the rest of the world will be riveted to their tubes watching synchronized swimming during this time of peace.
