Since this is the first-year of blogging for PartMule — however choppy — I thought we should end the year by giving out a Sportsman of the Year award….or better yet, Sportswoman of the Year.
I’ve never been enamored by the politics behind SOTY awards that, all-in-all, end up being a love fest for the most popular athlete of the year….versus being handed to the truest, most deserving athlete. So, it is in that spirit, that we award the Sportsperson of the Year to Miss Allison Stokke.
You’ll remember how this young pole vaulter from Orange County, CA enthralled the nation with her courage against the blogosphere, sportsmanship, cat-like skill, supple yams that don’t quit, and body ripe for cherries and whip cream…all, mind you, after she turned 18 years of age. Her meteoric rise from high school senior to being 18 years of age propelled her into the sports blogosphere hearts, minds, and spank banks for the year 2007….regardless of the efforts of the Internet Big Brothers to keep Allison Stokke out of wikipedia forever, we at PM have not forgotten her contribution to sport.
We look forward to a similar effort this coming year from Allison and the materials that will surely spruce up around the Net this upcoming track season at Cal-Berkeley in the Spring of ‘08. God Bless and Godspeed, lass….
UPDATE: Apparently, we may not be fortunate enough to see Miss Stokke on the track at Cal this coming season. See the story by Darren Rovell HERE…but, we’re still fortunate enough to see her below where I swear she was/is/told me she was 18 years-old. Thanks for the heads up, Matt.
