Roger Clemens upcoming interview with Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes this Sunday could spur a lawsuit by his former trainer, Brian McNamee.
McNamee is threatening a suit of Clemens if the former Cy Younger out-n-out denies that McNamee shot him up with performance-enhancing drugs and defames the trainer for his statements in the Mitchell Report.
McNamee’s lawyer, Richard D. Emery, wants Clemens to keep the interview off air or else….
“He’s got a chance to protect himself,” said Emery, who is based in New York and specializes in libel and defamation actions. “We’re not going to sue him if he doesn’t do it. But if he does it, we’re going to sue him.”
When told of Emery’s comments, Clemens’s lawyer, Rusty Hardin, said, “I believe a client who’s telling the truth should tell the world the truth.”
Hardin said Clemens stood his ground in the interview. “I think he expressed himself very emotionally, and it’ll give the viewer a chance to look at Roger and make up their mind,” Hardin said.
Asked whether there would be new disclosures, Hardin said, “I don’t think so.” He added, “I guess what’s new about it is hearing it in Roger’s own words.” [link]

But….this interview will be a complete farce. Why?
a) Interviewer Mike Wallace is a staunch Yankee fan, basically hand-picked by Team Clemens to do the piece to throw soft-pitch to Roger. This will be nothing but a pitch-to-yourself game of softball….
b) Clemens is a mule that NO DOUBT has taken HGH, steroids, monkey semen, whatever…to get an advantage in the game. You just don’t throw in the mid/high-90’s in your mid-40’s PERIOD. Clemens will lying out his ass….
c) Because it’s in vogue to use 60 Minutes to cleanse yourself of past sins. The once revered, investigative reporting outlet has succumbed to the ratings game. See Alex Rodriguez
