BRANDON HIGH SCHOOL FINALLY LOSES

The longest win streak of all-time, undoubtedly, was ended when Florida’s Brandon High School wrestling team lost after 34 years (!) and 459 consecutive dual match wins.  The streak started before the South Vietnam surrendered, Richard Nixon resigned, and through six different presidents….

“What this streak has done in this town, this school, is given it a cornerstone, a gem, a diamond to look at - to hold up,” said Brandon coach Russ Cozart. “Our wrestling program has gone from a coach who knew nothing to one of the elite programs. This is a great wrestling spectacle.”

Brandon racked up 36 consecutive perfect seasons. The Eagles make the 1972 Dolphins look like a flash in the pan.  [link]

Man….does the length of that streak make me feel old!  Umm….or young….or juuussst about right!   This age reveal thing can be tricky….which, understandably, has me perplexed about this Richard Nixon character.  Who is he?  Was he a nice guy?

However, I’m old enough to know of this South Vietnam place….where I hear they have terrific beaches and nail salons on almost every corner….but I don’t think they wrestle.   Hmm….what was this post about?

As a proud member of the Class of 1974 at BHS I was sad to see the streak end. What a wonderful ride it has been. This year’s Eagle wrestlers having nothing to be sad about … because they too have been part of the history of this great program!
