FanHouse posted an interesting tidbit Monday on a speculative Kobe trade scenario.

Apparently, the details of the trade were over-heard on a Portland Trailblazers summer league online web-cast, unbeknownst to the soft-speaking commentators, quoting a Laker source of an imminent Kobe trade to the Memphis Grizzlies for Pau Gasol and Mike Miller.  Speculation (?),  but an interesting scenario nonetheless.   [SOURCE]

Frankly, good for the Lakers if they make this move.  They can peddle the storeroom of Kobe’s Lexapro and release the suicide watch task-force too.  The move works under the salary cap for both squads and sets up both teams with some interesting line-ups for the 2007-2008 season - with Mike Conley drafted in Memphis and Derek Fisher landing in L.A. via free agency.

We’ll see if Kobe can handle ‘The Firm’ in Memphis.    We know what happened to Tom Cruise…

Bi-Polar Kobe?

kobe_happy.bmp

Our Lexapro poster-child is at it again.

Kobe Bryant is making nice again with Laker GM Mitch Kupchak, after lambasting him over the past month or so about his ineptitude in bringing talent to the Lakers over the post-Shaq years.   From SI:

Although he didn’t rescind his trade request, Kobe Bryant softened his stance somewhat Thursday night, saying he had apologized to Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak in person for the way he handled his upset feelings five weeks ago.

“I just felt like as a man, it was important for me to tell him, ‘I’m sorry it came out that way,”‘ Bryant said at a lightly attended news conference at Loyola Marymount, where he spoke mainly about his camp for youngsters at the school this week. [SOURCE]

Nice way to deflect at a camp for youngsters, Kobe!

I feel filthy and abused for even paying attention to this sad, repetitive headline –so I thought we could all commiserate, being the nice guy that I am.  Maybe I’m doing a public service on the pitfalls of bi-polarism?   Maybe I’m sick Laker fan hoping this will all work out?    Maybe I should go write on a chalk board 500 times, “I do not care about Kobe” and wash myself of this crap.

Here’s a video of Kobe being a ‘man’ b-ball schooling Filipino kids back in the late 90’s.

Laker in the Future?

Los Angeles Laker fans have to be rejoicing about the heat up of trade talks for superstar Kevin Garnett.    Today, Kobe may be slitting his wrists, jumping for joy, or committing other bi-polar acts to get attention, but the rest of Laker-Nation is on the edge of their seats on this one.   Sounds as if this will happen quickly or not at all.  From SI’s FanNation:

Minnesota owner Glen Taylor was expected to be in the Timberwolve’s offices this morning before departing for a honeymoon in China. His appearance at team headquarters suggested a quick resolution on the Lakers’  proposal, which includes forward Lamar Odom and center Andrew Bynum.

However, sources said that Kevin McHale, the Timberwolves vice president of basketball operations, wasn’t keen on the offer. In another scenario, the Lakers could include center in the deal and also acquire Troy Hudson or Marko Jaric to address a need for a ballhandling guard while lifting an unfavorable contract off the Timberwolves books [SOURCE].

If the Laker’s can get this done,  it might be time for Kobe to hit up Anna Nicole Smith’s pharmacist, or something.  Numb him up, shut him up, and put two of the games great players on the same team in a market salivating for it!   L.A. fans will forgive Kobe’s recent psychosis if Kevin laces ‘em up in the same locker room.   No doubt.

Who am I?   Who are you?    You want me to stay?   You hate me?   I like Colorado woman?   I love my “everything” wife.   Blah, blah, blah.   Here’s a link to the story, if you’re interested [ESPN]

I wanna leave…I don’t wanna leave.   I wanna bang Colorado concierges….I wanna bang my wife?   Figure it out, playa?!

Kobe needs his meds again.  That much is certain.  I do understand that he wants to win a championship and its admirable for him to strive, claw, and beg for it.   But his approach is still ALL Kobe.  Rather than enabling the Lakers to attempt to make ”non-desperate”, trade attractive moves this off-season, he is showing the Laker whole cards and the league has gotta be lovin’ it.

This morning on 1050 EPSN Radio NY, Kobe had this to say about the speculation on his coming/going:

“I would like to be traded, yeah. Tough as it is to come to that conclusion there’s no other alternative, you know?”

Bryant, interviewed by Stephen A. Smith, was asked if there was anything the Lakers could do to change his mind.

“No,” Bryant said. “I just want them to do the right thing.”

Asked if he had any preference for a trade destination, he said “At this point I’ll go play on Pluto.”

He later recanted, slightly.  Bryant talked to Dan Patrick on ESPN Radio,

“I’m so tired of talking,” Bryant said. “It’s tough. I always dreamed about retiring as a Laker. I just hope and hope that something can be resolved. Something can be figured out. Just something so I can stay here and be in this city and be with the team I love.” [SOURCE]

Kobe’s recent public swaying on being traded, in addition to his boisterous ambitions to have Jerry West return to the Lakers front office, have the ”hardest of core” Laker fans sick.

Kobe, go to Maui with your “everything” and let the Lakers go after the Kevin Garnett’s and Jermaine O’Neal’s this off season with enough ammunition to bring it home, baby!   Or drop a couple of Lexapro and just chill…
